CLASS 2

A Class 2 driver's licence allows you to drive a bus and any type of vehicle allowed with Class 3, 4, or 5 driver's licence permits.

Step 1: Meet the Requirements

There are a few mandatory requirements before you take the knowledge test.

  • Check You must be at least 18 years of age
  • Hold a valid Class 5 licence, at minimum
  • Successfully complete the pre-requisite courses: MELT-2 Program & School Bus Driver Improvement Program (S-Endorsement)

Step 2: Test Your Knowledge

You must pass the Class 2 knowledge test. To prepare for your knowledge test, check out the open_in_new Alberta Commercial Driver’s Guide to Operation.

Step 3:Prepare for the Road Test

In order to attempt the road test, ensure you complete the following requirements.

  • Complete a medical examination by a doctor and submit a satisfactory medical form when you check in for your road test
  • If you are required to operate air brake equipped vehicles, you must pass the open_in_newAir Brake (Q) Endorsement.

Step 4: Take the Class 2 Road Test

Now that you’ve completed all your classes and passed your knowledge test, you’re ready to get behind the wheel. To book your Class 2 road test, you’ll need:

  • Valid government-issued ID, such as driver’s licence or passport (please note: a driver’s licence is required for online bookings)
  • Copy of your Class 2 medical examination and Vision Assessment
  • Verification of completion of the Class 2 knowledge and Air Brake (Q) endorsement (if applicable) knowledge tests
  • Verification of completion of MELT-2 program
